Abstract

A diagnosis was developed with the objective of knowing the inhabitants of the Popular Council of Costa Rica’s culture on the fruits consumption in six communities.  The results showed that 100% of the surveyed residents consider the fruits consumption very important for many reasons, where they express as the predominant criterion the fruits value as vitamins sources, and their benefits for human health.  There is a predominance of residents who plant fruit trees in their homes over those who do not.  The most cultivated species are mango (28%), guava (19%) and orange (12%).  There is predominance in relation to the number of sick inhabitants compared to healthy ones and a close relationship between the consumption of fruits and the suffering diseases, arterial hypertension was the highest incidence pathology representing 54.0%, followed by Diabetes Mellitus, with 13.0%.
