The coconut tree is a crop of great relevance for the inhabitants of the Baracoa municipality, Cuba. 4 483 ha are dedicated to this crop, which corresponds to 10.95% of the agricultural area of the municipality. However, the Cuban experience related to the use of science and technology in the coconut tree and its link with social development has been little studied. The objective of this work is to analyze the fundamental concepts and approaches of the social problems of science and technology in the cultivation of coconut in Baracoa. Methodologic triangulation was applied. It was concluded that addressing the existing problems in cultivation from a multidisciplinary approach characteristic of the Science, Technology and Society perspectives, must be carried out together with the implementation of concrete measures that strengthen the development and participation of society with indicators that determine their impact.
