Abstract

The adequate and effective use of renewable energy in Cuba, constitutes today one of the main priorities of the Government and State in order to achieve sustainable management of renewable energy sources (RES). In this direction, rural communities play a priority role and their success depends largely on the decision-making process, as well as local management and the inadequate use of these sources, aspects of first order in the present research, aimed at identifying limits and opportunities for the use of renewable energy sources in the Viento Frío rural community. from the southern municipality of San Antonio del Sur. The study was carried out through participant observation, survey, interview, document analysis, and participatory dynamics as the main methods. Successes and obstacles were identified, as well as opportunities that allow the possible modification of the energy matrix under an inclusive social order.
