Abstract

Cuban education, based on dialectical and historical materialism, seeks to form citizens who are conscious and active in environmental protection. The school, as a communitarian cultural center, is essential to instill environmental values in students and thus, to form individuals committed to its care and conservation. To this end, taking into consideration the insufficiencies detected from the application of evaluation instruments, a system of educational activities was developed to contribute to the development of Environmental Education in the 5th grade students of the “Elena Fuentes” Elementary School in Guantanamo municipality. Its essential characteristics are the leading character of the schoolchildren and the correspondence with the objectives of the Environmental Education strategy for Elementary School.
