Abstract

The Guantánamo province has suffered flooding from heavy rains on different occasions, especially due to the occurrence of cyclones that periodically affect this territory, especially in its mountainous municipalities.  To facilitate the work of protecting the population in each Defense Council of the territory, it is essential to raise the flooding risk perception of by the population.  Through the application of a measurement instrument, an in-depth diagnosis was made about this risk perception, attending to its different segments, assessing how different variables influence the perception of risk, such as: age, sex, educational level, work sector and others.  For its development, information collection instruments were applied that led to the evaluation of the level of risk perception at three different qualitative levels, low, medium and high.
