Abstract

This work deals with the environmental management in the coastal zone "Cuchillas del Toa" Biosphere Reserve, located in the eastern region of Cuba. The main objective of this research is to apply the geoecological approach as a basis for the proposal of environmental management of the terrestrial landscapes of the studied area. For this purpose, some methods of Landscape Geoecology were used, which allowed identifying, classifying and mapping the units of first-order landscapes. It was analyzed the vertical, horizontal and functional structure of landscapes and the synthetic indicators of stability and sensitivity, which culminated in the diagnosis of the geoecological state. Finally, the geoecological functions of landscapes were evaluated and the model of environmental management was proposed.
