Abstract

The analysis of the expanded value chain of cocoa (HVAC) was a study carried out by consultants from the Centre for Information and technological management at Guantanamo, with the cooperation of the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation and Development, the ministry of agriculture, the Agroforestry Research Institute and the Government of Guantánamo province. Among its main objectives was the analysis of the potentialities of the local business existing in the guantanamero territory, using a methodology for the diagnosis of value chains, designed by the consultants, considering the context and the objectives of the study. As a result, sensitive information was obtained for decision-making in the local environment, evaluating opportunities for the development of economic activities within the framework of the CAVC, which enable economic diversification, the increase of incomes and the improvement of the living conditions of the rural population.
