Abstract

This work values the way in which the gender perspective is incorporated to the actions developed to manage emergency and disaster risks. It has an explorative, descriptive and non-experimental character; theoretical methods have mainly been applied to elaborate a reflexive platform which permits to determine the influence of both sexes in the risk management in the region, how they are influenced by such disaster situations and their capacity to climate change adaptation. The analysis show that women are among the most vulnerable groups because they have been historically discriminated by different causes and it has been determined that after disasters they carry a heavier charge. If the gender approach is not integrated there is no effective action to minimize the consequences of disasters. To ignore the imparity between men and women brings about new risk sceneries.
