Abstract

The objective of this work is to determine the spatial and temporal behavior of Severe Local Storms, as well as the starting time and the affectations they provoke to agricultural production in Yateras, Guantánamo Province. There were used the database of the Provincial Meteorological Center with the reports of their occurrence in the period between 1980 - 2017, the observations made by Madre Vieja Meteorological Station and the damage reports taken from the municipal Defense Council. The results showed that in the studied period 48 TLS took place between 13.00- 18.00 hrs of 750W in Yateras; the months of highest occurrence were May and July, while 2011 and 2014 reported the highest incidence. This investigation is relevant to the Ministry of Agriculture and the decision makers at the time of applying preventive measures aimed at reducing risks.
