Abstract

With the aim of determining the influence of nut weight and its maturity degree in the germination of coconut tree the following experiment was carried out in the nursery phase of Playa Duaba, belonging to the Baracoa Coconut Company, which is located in the Baracoa Municipality, Guantanamo Province, in the period May-November 2003. It was chosen the green Indian cultivation, taking into account the high percentage of adaptability to the edafoclimatic characteristics of the zone and the producers’ acceptation. The best results were obtained when using nuts with an average weight between 1 – 1.5 kg and 12 months of age.
