Abstract

The work was carried out in El Bagá, El Naranjo, Baitiquirí and La Puntita communities, belonging to the Baitiquirí Ecological Reserve, from San Antonio del Sur municipality, Guantánamo province, with the aim of proposing actions for the sustainable use of non-wood forest products. To collect the ethnobotanical information, the empirical method of structured surveys to 264 people was used. The ethnobotanical parameters were calculated and the existence of species classified as non-wood forest products was verified. 59 species with traditional uses were identified; only 25.4% of the plants reported by people were present in the forest structure. The cited species that presented the highest use value and level of significant use were the least abundant. A seven-actions proposal was made for the sustainable use of non-wood forest products in the Baitiquirí Ecological Reserve.
