Abstract

The work takes place in agroecologist farmsteads of the southern coastal strip belonging to St. Antonio, Imias and Maisi municipalities in Guantanamo province, aimed to appraise how the agroecology enables the integration of socioeconomic activities in the rural space, resulting a sustainable design of development.  It updates on the rural tourism and strategic aspects of the chosen zone's development. The agroecology usefulness to generate an endogenous and local advance in the rural space of the Southern coast was evaluated, in which tangible and intangibles aspects for cost-reducing development integrate themselves. A specific context, like a proposal of alternative design based in the rural tourism, is ascribed. The social, cost-reducing, political and cultural perspective takes part of agroecology to verify those factors which influence decisively on strategies and the farmers' decisions.
