Abstract

A longitudinal retrospective descriptive study was carried out in Felicidad de Yateras with the aim of identifying environmental factors associated with diarrhea in children under five years old. The universe was made up of 84 patients and the sample by 47. The following variables were studied: children’s age and sex, education and maternal occupation, as well as level of knowledge about the concept of risk factors, possible etiology and diarrhea complications. Among the factors associated with diarrhea, the absence of exclusive breastfeeding during the first month of life was identified. The results obtained were compared to information and findings of other authors according to the consulted bibliography, which allowed getting some conclusions and elaborating recommendations. The female sex and the age group between six months and one-year age predominated in the study.
