Abstract

The work was carried out in Baitiquirí Ecological Reserve in Guantánamo Province, from January to February 2016, with the objective of determining the behavior of iguana (C. nubile) through population density, eating habits and associated vegetation. The density was determined from the indirect method, counting of shelters occupied by plots. Twenty plots of 20 x 25 m were planted in two plant formations. There were analyzed 56 stool samples to determine feeding. For the sampling 33 plots of 10 x 10 (100 m2) were built at random. The density of the population was estimated at 6.6 individuals / ha, which is considered a normal value. The coastal mangrove offers better shelter and food conditions. The species is phytophagous, since most of its diet is constituted by vegetal material; it uses the species of greater density in the area.
