Unwoody forestal products in places of the semiarid zone, Imías, Guantánamo.

Abstract

The research was developed in La chivera, Los cerezos and Veguita del Sur, three places of the semi-arid zone in Imías, Guantanamo; the ethnobotanical information was collected by the empirical method of structured surveys, with the objective of determining the unwoody forestal products and their traditional uses; 170 people were surveyed. The value, frequency of use and the significant level of the species were calculated, while it was verified the existence of the species mentioned as unwoody forestal products in the forest and 61 species with traditional uses were identified and the species with the highest use value were Guaiacum officiales L. and Lysiloma Sabicu Benth. The most important ones according to the number of species and their use are the medicative plants with 36 species and 27 are not present in the xerophytic forest, although they are mentioned by the population.
