It was studied under conditions of gavels the behavior of five varieties of sugar cane in three levels of salinity of  a Cambisol of the old Sugar Company “Paraguay", in the Valley of Guantánamo. The results did not evidence negative effects of salinity on the germination at the end of the period (20 days ago), however, all the varieties experienced a marked delay of the same one with the increments of the plantation age. The length of stems was affected among 14 and 34% and the production of dry matter (M.S.) In 34 and 64 percent for saline tenors of 2500 3500 ppm and over 4000 ppm of soluble total smelling salts respectively. Less and more affected varieties turned out to be the C 187-68; My 5465 (57%) and Ja64-19, C323-68 (71%) respectively.
