Abstract

The research was conducted in two forms of production in the towns of San Juan and Cupeyal, located in the mountainous part of the municipality El Salvador, Guantanamo province, Cuba, during the period between enero-julio/2013, with the aim of characterizing the plant biodiversity in these localities. A standardized questionnaire was applied and the calculation of biodiversity indices. In the town of San Juan the study yielded 72 species, the most abundant were: medicinal plants (23), energy (13) and fruit (12). While in the town of Cupeyal 102 species, 18 are forest, 14 fruit trees and other plants of agricultural and medicinal. This result allowed to prove the existence of a decline in plant biodiversity of these places so it is working to establish a plan of action.
