Abstract

A study of the behavior of the start time and duration frequency of electrical storms at the Palenque de Yateras meteorological station is presented, in the period 1996-2023. The data were extracted from the phenomena sheet of the INSMET Meteorological Observations Settlement Book, for a period of 28 years (1996-2023), and were processed in the Microsoft Office Access application. The onset time and absolute frequency of this phenomenon, the average per month and its percentage calculation were determined. It is concluded that the most frequent start time ranges between 12:00-8:00 p.m., with 66.9% of cases in the active period; the most frequent duration reaches 3 hours and more; while the month of August presents the highest average. The results can be useful for mitigating the economic and social damages associated with this phenomenon.
