Abstract

One of the manifestations of Severe Local Storms are aeroavalanches, which can cause significant socioeconomic damage. The objective of this research is to characterize the spatio-temporal behavior of aeroavalanches in the Guantánamo province in the period 1980-2021. Based on the reports of this severe event from the Provincial Meteorological Surveillance Group, they were organized and processed in Office Excel format and with Quantum Gis. For the study, the years, months of highest and lowest incidence were analyzed, as well as the analysis of the time of onset; In addition, the spatial distribution map was made. The results highlight that the largest number of reports per year corresponds to 2002 and 2016, that the months of greatest occurrence are between May and July, with the most frequent start time being between 2:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.; the most vulnerable municipalities are Yateras, Guantánamo and Maisí.
