Insect diversity in Pinus cubensis G. forests at Empress Agroforestry Baracoa

Abstract

The research was carried out in the plantations of Pinus cubensis G. belonging to the EmpresaAgroforestal Baracoa. The objective was to determine the diversity of insects associated with P. cubensis forests. The inventories were carried out in five localities (Palma Clara Vivero, Palma Clara Comunity, La Vigía, Yumurí del Sur and Salto del Indio) with pine plantations, where plots were surveyed through the zigzag transect method, by means of temporary strips of 100 m, to determine the entomofauna and the biological diversity indexes. The inventory yielded six orders of insects grouping 21 families and 27 species. The five localities sampled showed homogeneous equitability, low species abundance and dominance, with Palma Clara and La Vigía showing the highest richness. The most frequent and abundant species were Dioryctriahorneana and Ipsgrandicollis, and Ipscalligraphus was reported for the first time for the municipality.
