Abstract

The Human Resources Development in Health Project, Guantanamo University of Medical Sciences, carried out a prospective descriptive study between March 2021-May 2022 on the poor handling of medicines, which generates an environmental effect unsuspected even by health professionals and the population in general. Using empirical, theoretical and mathematical statistical methods, primary information was obtained on the indiscriminate use of drugs, the perception of the environmental effect of their mismanagement and the role of toxicologists in their mitigation. Based on references and theoretical foundations on the subject, the scientific problem was identified as: how to contribute to the impact of these professionals in the fight against the environmental effect of drug mishandling? As a solution, a policy of environmental educational actions was designed for toxicologists to effectively assume their role in environmental health.
