Abstract

The investigation made possible to determine the adverse effects on the environment from the diagnosis of the irregularities of the locomotives of the Guantanamo railway. The non-participatory observation and analysis-synthesis method was used. The results showed the existence of structural and non-structural vulnerabilities of the locomotives, violations of the maintenance cycle and durability of the material, which put personnel at risk, as well as the occurrence of environmental contamination and costs to the country's economy. The research allowed substantiating the need to improve the manager’s knowledge level, drivers and machinists about the consequences of the deterioration of locomotives and its effects. The results demonstrated the characterization of the poor condition of the locomotives and the design of a system of actions to reduce the negative effect on the environment, which allow decreasing environmental pollution and, thus, conditions and healthy style of this population segment.
