Abstract

The purpose of this research is to evaluate the health status of the mangrove ecosystem in the Paraguay coastal sector, Guantanamo, Cuba. The evaluation was carried out from January to June, 2018 from the identification of the tensioners affecting this ecosystem, by using the methodology proposed for the Cuban mangroves. Besides, different parameters were evaluated such as: dasometric, natural regeneration and mortality. Nine tensioners were identified, mostly with low intensity and anthropic character. Nevertheless, the mangrove ecosystem conservation degree is high and it keeps its environmental services. The mangrove ecosystem is generally dominated by the four species of mangrove inhabiting in Cuba, which are poorly structured, nevertheless it shows good recovery level for the high natural regeneration, although, sometimes fails the retrieval.
