Abstract

The Local Severe Storms (TLS in Spanish), are meteorological phenomena characterized by the occurrence of hail, tornadoes, waterspouts at height and downburst, common in Cuba especially in the rainy period. In Guantánamo province, Yateras is the most affected territory by TLS, which is the reason for the present work which is aimed to determine the behavior of TLS in the municipality in a 39 years period. 55 reports obtained from sources such as: the phenomenon report of the meteorological station 78334, provincial archives, newspapers, the amateur network, were studied and processed to graph them from Office Excel. Several data on the number of storms per month, severity demonstrations and time of occurrence were compared. The results show that July and May are the months of greatest affectation and the most representative manifestation of severity is the combination of downburst with hail, and hailstorms between 13:00 and 18:00.
