Abstract

The experiment was carried out at the Mountain Development Center from February to March 2014, during which it was evaluated the economical feasibility of lettuce seed production in tropical conditions. It was used the BSS-13 variety, which is distinguished for reaching high yields in the seed, with the objective of evaluating it to obtain fresh seeds in mountain conditions. The data were processed through the field work according to the "Real Cost of Agricultural Production” Methodology, which includes all the expenses in the agricultural production process, from the preparation of the soil to the finished product. The results obtained show that the total cost per kg of obtained seed was 28.39 pesos with a 0.28 USD/ Kg. component, a fact that indicates the feasibility of seed production.
