Abstract

The global deterioration of the environmental conditions has led the international community to declare an environmental crisis unprecedented in the history of mankind. This reality requires that all sectors of society be aware of the preservation of the environment as an alternative for survival. Within this context, the Cuban financial institutions and specifically the banking activity, have an urgent need to incorporate the environmental dimension as a strategic variable in its management process, with the purpose of making its services eco-efficient and to contribute to the sustainable development. The current article has as main objective the design of a procedure to evaluate eco-efficiency in Cuban banking institutions, which strengthens corporate environmental management, laying in these aspects its main novelty. For designing this article, methods of the theoretical and empirical levels were used; they are: historic-logical, analysis-synthesis, inductive-deductive, documentary review, observation, surveys, and specialists’ criteria.
