For study the influence of the sugarcane on the resistance from the soil to the penetration in a Chromic Vertisol, they were evaluated the stumps cane plant and 1st sprout. They were settled down 24 observation points being carried out, with an impact penetrometer, the samplings in the furrow and in the ridge, to the depths 0-10, 10-20 and 20-30 cm. An analysis of variance took effect and the test of multiple status of Duncan was used to 95 % of probability. Cane plant was found that, in the furrow, the first 10 cm are few compacted upon on a fairly compacted layer that arrives until the 30 cm; while in the ridge the thickness of the superficial layer few little compacted is much bigger. In 1st sprout, as much in the furrow as in the ridge, the soil is fairly compacted until the 30 cm.
