Abstract

The results of a study are presented with the objective of estimating the heritability of some characters related to sugar content and maturation of sugar cane, as well as to know the general combining ability of the parents used in a factorial backcrossing design or North Carolina. The study was made in the Clonal Lot 2 of the selection outline. It was made a analysis of univariate variance. Important  differences were recorded in the former one, there was a higher variability  and heritability  estimates were higher ; therefore, the evaluation and selection are recommended  in that moment. The effect  of female parents was more important, so that it should be kept in mind  in parent choice. For their general combine ability of the progenitors, C1616-75 y Cp52-43 were notable as female parents whereas Ja60-5, C334-64 and My54129 as male parents.
