Abstract

This study was carried out in “Carlos Baliño†sugar factory of Villa Clara province; the main objective was to offer a specific group of strategie and recommendations for the sustainable management of the soils. The evaluation of the Physical Aptitude of soils shows that 84.25% of the area is suitable for the sugar cane crop and 14.75% is not suitable. The effective depth, acidity degree, compactation and the drainage represent the main edaphic factors that mostly limit the productivity of the soils. Different sceneries were generated to take decisions with the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The proposal of the soil use was 55.6% for sugarcane, 25.2% for livestock, 10.5% for fruit trees, 6.4% for forest and 2.3% for temporary crops. On the base of accumulated scientific knowledge and the correction of limiting soil factors, several recommendations of agricultural practices were elaborated which have an impact toward the search of sustainable development.
