Abstract

The investigation was accomplished in the municipality Manuel Tames, Guantanamo, to evaluate the historical behavior of the forestal fires, and thus define guidelines that allow the improvement of the protection system against fires. It was took into account the temporary and space distribution of the fires and the burnt surfaces, in the period 2003 - 2012, also, the causes that provoke them. The activities were planned to decrease their occurrence and propagation. In the last years the fire number has increased, most happens between February and May; in general from 10:00 o'clock to 20:00 hours and the weekend. The cause that provokes the biggest fire number is the negligence. It becomes necessary to implement an appropriate plan of protection against fires, making emphasis in the prevention of them of human nature and to take actions to modify the structure and composition of the combustible material.
