Mortality and morbility of haemorrhagic cerebrovascular disease

Case control study was made in order to characterize some aspects involved in the mortality and morbility of haemorrhagic cerebrovascular disease in the Agostinho Neto Hospital during 2000 to 2004. The case group was composed of 143 death and 287 alive patients (n=430) with haemorrhagic cerebrovascular diseases. The control group was composed of 860 patients without this diagnosis. Results: The 79,1 % of the patients was older than 54 years. The haemorrhage in the subaracnoid space was more frequent. Women were more afected (60, 1 %). The intracraneal haemorrhage was more frequent in male patients. The 74, 8 % of the patients died in the first 48 hours. The direct cause of death was the edema of the brain (43, 3 %; 41,0 - 45,3 IC 95 %). The factors associated with this disease were diabetes (OR 8, 9) (6, 9-10, 0% IC 95 %) and tabacoism.
