Abstract

It was performed a case control investigation about newborns that were born before 35 weeks of pregnancy and admitted in the neonatology service of Guantánamo Teaching Hospital, during 2005; with the objective to show their morbidity and mortality. It was defined as “case†group the 19 newborns with 12 hours and more than 12 hours times of membranes rupture and as “control†the newborns whit less than 12 hours time of membranes rupture. The gestational age, weight at birth, critical morbidity were studied. It was shown that the 32,2% of neonate had 12 or more hours time of membranes rupture. In this group the infection predominated and the 52,6% of these babies had critical morbidity. In the control group, disease as the Membrane Hyaline and Transient Thachypnea of Newborn predominated. The critical morbidity was 37,6%.
