Abstract

During the years 2008 and 2009 were made and approved the Cuban Norm: "Quality of soil. Evaluation of the salinity" (NC 112:2009). Through the case study in Guantánamo, the new normative document was validated, confirming the utility of the new indicators to characterize the global salinity, specific Salinity and the particularities of chemical processes that characterize the salinization and sodicity of soils. The chosen area was the Jabilla (Guantánamo Valley), where an intense salinization was quantified with sodicity risk and outstanding ionic interaction. These results allowed deepening in the characterization of salinization and sodicity of soils, contributing particularities before not revealed. In turn, the new methodology was disclosed to evaluate the salinity, its advantages and to deepen in the importance of the care of soils affected by salinity problems.
