Abstract

With the objective of evaluating different clones and hybrids of T. cacao, research was carried out in the germplasm bank of the UCTB Baracoa Agroforestry Research Institute, located at km 8 of the Baracoa-Guantánamo highway. The method used to evaluate resistance to the disease was that of Phillips and Galindo (1989). Ten five-month-old fruits of each cultivar were inoculated with 1 cm diameter filter paper discs immersed in agitated permanent suspension. Each ear was introduced into a humidity chamber and ten days after inoculation, severity and resistance were determined. The main results demonstrated the great genetic variability of the clones and hybrids, and their favorable characteristics to be used as female parents, as well as their behavior to different cocoa pests.
