Abstract

The work was carried out at the La Juanica farm owned by producer Rafael Medina González, Manuel Tames municipality, Guantánamo province. With the objective of evaluating the effect of the probiotic Biolac as a growth promoter in pre-fattening pigs, as well as in the control of enteric disorders. Twenty Yorkshire x Landrace hybrid pigs, with an average weight of 7 kg, were used for 42 days, according to a completely randomized design with two treatments and ten repetitions. The microbiological analysis of Biolac showed a significant increase in yeasts (11.6; 12.0 and 14.2 cfu.10-6/ml), they increased significantly (P<0.05) in the pigs that consumed the probiotic, the final live weight (27.30 and 28.60 kg), weight gain (20.3 and 21.6 kg) and average daily gain (483 and 514 g/day, respectively), other indicators that improved were the occurrence of diarrhea and death, where they were superior to the control treatment.
